CLINICAL CARDIOLOGY : Pulmonary Hypertension Center

The Pulmonary Hypertension Center offers a multidisciplinary team who are specifically trained in pulmonary hypertension therapies. Physician Specialists, Nurses, Dietitian, and Rehabilitation staff come together to offer education, support and hope.
Services are offered on an Outpatient basis and include individualized nutrition, exercise, medical treatment and stress management.  An active, highly educated support group is available as is community outreach and education. Do you or does someone you love have Pulmonary Hypertension?

Recognize the symptoms...
  • Shortness of breath with activity
  • Feeling tired
  • Fainting
  • Chest pain
  • Swollen ankles, legs or abdomen
  • Symptoms usually limit exercise and other activities
If you answered yes to any of these questions. You may have Pulmonary Hypertension.

Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) occurs when the blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries (the vessels that carry blood from the heart to the lungs) becomes higher than normal putting additional work and stress on the right side of the heart.

Pulmonary Hypertension is a chronic condition that can become life threatening. It affects people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.

What are the common causes of pulmonary hypertension
  • Congenital heart defects   
  • Connective tissue disease—Scleroderma, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • HIV infection
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Certain diet drugs   
  • Sickle Cell Anemia
How is pulmonary hypertension diagnosed?
The following tests and procedures are used for evaluation of heart and lung function:
